  • CFE Frequently Asked Questions
How many CFE hours must I report for annual license renewal?

You must report 10 CFE hours only from the current or prior year beginning October 1st (2 years prior).

What Category of CFE hours are required to meet renewal requirements?

Category 1 CFE hours must be a minimum of five hours up to a maximum of ten hours. Other CFE Category hours may total a maximum of 5 hours.

Where can I obtain CFE hours?

See “Where to get CFE hours” on the CFE page.

How do I apply for an upcoming course that I am sponsoring to be certified for CFE’s?

Send a copy of the course agenda to the Board’s Executive Director for review at least two weeks before the course. See “CFE Approval Checklist”.

As a Registered Forester I took a course that I think qualifies for CFE’s, but the course was never certified for Forestry CFE’s. Can I apply to the Board for a certificate of approved CFE hours?

Yes, submit the course agenda to the Board office administrator with all the criteria required by the “CFE Approval Checklist”.

As a multi-vocational Registered Forester can I use any of my other professional continuing education hours?

Registered Foresters that are licensed in other professions like engineers, realtors, appraisers, surveyors, attorneys and others may take continuing education instruction within their continuing education courses that can be applied to timber, timberland and forest management. The portions of these courses that apply to professional forester can be claimed by the Registered Forester as Category 3 CFE hours. If there is instruction that would apply directly to timber, timberland and/or forest management, the Registered Forester may ask the Board for Category 1 CFE hours approval by stating the direct application of each course session to a professional forester’s educational benefit under Category 1 rules.
