  • License Renewal Frequently Asked Questions
How do I renew my license?

Most foresters use the online renewal process using a credit or debit card, or an electronic bank account transaction. You may also download or request the manual renewal form and send it by mail with a check or money order or hand deliver to the office by appointment. (See the renewal directions on this website for more information).

What annual requirement could prevent me from renewing my license?

Continuing Forestry Education (CFE) hours and supporting documents. First, not having your required ten hours of Continuing Education. Fortunately, there are numerous Continuous Forestry Education (CFE) training courses available including webinars (see this website’s CFE courses available list).  Second, if you are randomly selected for CFE audit and do not submit your CFE supporting documents your license will not be renewed.

What is the CFE annual audit process?

The Board requires a portion of the annual renewal CFE hours be audited each year. An impersonal selection process  requests CFE records be sent by the selected forester to the Board for compliance review. It is required that every forester keep attendance records, including formal CFE attendance certificates, course and tour outlines for non-category 1 CFE’s and other proof of attendance information. Failure to comply with the audit process and/or CFE requirements causes your license to be revoked. (See the CFE section on this website for more information).

What if I miss the September 30th deadline to renew my license?

Your license lapses. You have until December 31st to renew your lapsed license by paying a late fee and submitting your CFE hours records.

What if I miss the December 31st deadline to renew my lapsed license?

Your license is permanently revoked.  You will have to apply for reinstatement which requires the process of applying for a new license plus paying application and reinstatement fees and having valid CFE hours consistent with the renewal process.

What if I do not have my CFE hours in time for the September 30th deadline renewal?

You will need to obtain your required CFE hours after September 30th and renew your lapsed license and pay the additional late fee before your license is revoked on December 31st.

What CFE hours do foresters sometimes forget to use?

Sometimes Foresters forget to use CFE hours for forestry committee participation; also roll forward of the prior year’s unused CFE hours. If you do have roll forward hours, use them first to preserve your current year hours for roll over needs next year. (See the CFE section of this website for more information).
